P.O.W.E.R PROJECT: emPOWERing Parents emPOWERing communities

Parents are a powerful influence in the lives of their children. When parents makes a habit of knowing about what they are doing, whom they are with and where they are and setting clear expectations for behaviour with regular check in's - they can reduce their childs risk for drugs, alcohol or youth crime (gangs and knives) . POWER work directly with the police and local schools, to engage with parents to help form a stronger relationship with their child from a very young age.

Through the support of our partners we keep parents informed about issues surrounding youth crime, prevention techniques and how to spot signs that may put your child at risk of getting involved in harmful activity.

Workshops have been delivered across schools in Birmingham to raise awareness of issues surrounding young people and learning positive and successful approaches through values taken from Youth Work. Workshops are tailored to young people and parents to understand the challenges faced by both parents and children and how to avoid conflicts and build a better understanding through effective communication.

"Very useful because it gave me more ideas on how to talk to my kids, supported by knowledge of what's happening in the community"

"A good reminder of the changes in society. How to start supporting our children before we can't cope or it's too late To understand we are a parent and we have a big responsibility"

"The resources given are excellent it will help me with talking to my child who will soon be a teenager"
